We are committed to fostering an inclusive scientific environment that welcomes individuals from diverse personal backgrounds and scientific interests. There are as many ways of doing science as there are scientists, and our best ideas emerge through collaboration and conversation with colleagues.
The values of a lab are ultimately shaped by the people who join it; at our founding, we are especially focused on:
Scientific values: we seek individuals who are deeply curious about nature and are excited to tackle challenging problems. This implies some (measured) risk tolerance in choosing projects; the courage to cross the boundaries of traditional scientific disciplines; and the integrity to follow where the data lead, especially when it does not support your preferred hypothesis.
Personal development: our primary goal is for scientists to be empowered as autonomous and independent problem-solvers. We believe this growth requires junior scientists to assume intellectual ownership over their work, and not merely carry out orders from a PI. We are also committed to working with junior scientists to help them identify and work towards their future career goals, whether in the academy, in the public sector, in industry and entrepreneurship, or elsewhere.
